They say content is king. If this is true, then those of us working in content marketing must be loyal subjects of the kingdom.
But instead of knights and jesters, there seems to be a unique set of cast and characters. If you work in content marketing, you’ve probably encountered at least one of these seven types of people. In fact, you may even be one.
1. Optimize Prime
Optimize Prime is an enforcer of, you guessed it, optimization. This type speaks in keywords and anchor text. They shoot laser beams and meta descriptions on the daily.
This type of person sees content as a puzzle and optimizing is the only way to complete the picture. They are up on all the rules and they understand algorithms that have most of us scratching our heads. Pleasing the search robots is a tireless mission but some people were born to do it.
2. The Viral Vixen
It’s hard not to snicker when clients ask for viral this, or viral that. That’s not to say there’s absolutely no formula for making content that could become popular, but we’re more on the side of creating quality content and going from there.
The Viral Vixen, however, is eyeballs deep in Buzzfeed lists and cat memes. Brainstorming ways to make content viral is their jam and they won’t rest until they’ve found the magic sauce. They’ll be the first to tell you that their “viral video” got over a hundred hits in one hour and their article on Buzzfeed lists and cat memes was shared EVERYWHERE!!! Don’t be alarmed, it’s just passion… we hope.
3. The Title Wizard
We all know that when it comes to content, titles are a big deal. The statistics say that 8 out of 10 people read headlines but only 2 out of 10 will read the rest. That means crafting a clickworthy title is the difference between an audience or tumbleweed.
So that person who can whip up consistently interesting titles is definitely someone to admire. Not only can these people come up with great titles for their own content, they’re probably the-go-to person to rework titles suffering from a case of the blahs. High five Title Wizards!
4.The Data Diver
Content might be about words and information, but with marketing, numbers obviously play a crucial role. The online world allows us to measure everything down to the click.
And measuring is the Data Divers favourite. If you work in content marketing you’ve definitely met someone who is all about the numbers. They are big into a/b split testing everything from call to actions to email subject lines. They’re delighted to provide a traffic report and inform you on what’s working and what isn’t up to snuff. The numbers don’t lie
They are the yang to the wordsmith’s ying. If you meet a Data Diver, give them a hug. Being passionate about data is pretty special.
5. The Socialite
When we say Socialite we’re not talking about Paris Hilton. We’re talking about content marketers who live, eat and breathe social media.
You know the type. Their HootSuite dashboard is something to behold. They celebrate retweets like game winning shots and they’d probably pick Facebook likes over gold bars, no question. We’re not saying they’re obsessed with social media but… well, no, that’s exactly what we’re saying.
6. The Synonym Spinmaster
We were this close to calling this type Tommy Thesaurus but decided on Synonym Spinmaster. Case in point, there are so many ways to say the same thing.
While others get stuck in a vocabulary rut or a phrase funk, these clever types do not get stumped. By the time you’ve finished reading this blog post, they will have already drafted, “7 Kinds of Humans You’ll Encounter in Inbound Marketing.” And they’ll feel pretty smug about it too.
7. The Humanator
If you ask this person what’s the most important thing about content marketing, without fail they will say: authenticity. Not SEO, not newsletter sign ups… not even sales.
This type champions marketing that warmly invites people, believes sharing is caring and no pushing allowed. So, basically, your kindergarten teacher all over again. They are the human side to marketing and we’re very thankful for them.
Whether you see yourself as a social media junkie or an SEO master, it’s plain to see that having all these types is what makes content marketing work. The diversity of people and passions in this field is what keeps the community interesting, challenging and always innovating.
